Ground beef burrito

What, that’s it? Hmm, I thought there would be more to it than that. Ok, well. Fine. To be fair, the menu does say “beans, rice, salsa fresca, roasted tomato sauce and lettuce.” Now I see I could have upgraded to a super for $2.00 more, but at $5.25 for a ground beef I expected more.

Speaking of… when was the last time you had a ground beef burrito? It had been years for me, but I thought it might be kind of interesting to give it a shot. No. Might as well as gone to taco bell. Pretty lame overall. The rice was bland and generic, beans tasteless. The salsa fresca was actually pretty good, but that’s a pretty sad burrito when the fact that only the tomatoes define the taste. To top it off, lettuce on a burrito is always iffy, and since this one had more cilantro than lettuce I am left more confused than satisfied. The ground beef itself was ok, but there wasn’t enough of it. Overall a very pedestrian burrito.

Surprisingly, the place was jumping, but this is Hercules we’re talking about after all. Perhaps there is simply not much choice out there. Obviously I can’t complain too much. I mean, if you get a ground beef burrito, you kind of can’t expect too much. Luckily the small size and lack of flavor was offset by delicious tri-tip and good times earlier in the day.

The Mike Therieau Band played at The Warehouse Café in Port Costa. Good times were had by all. The mix of bikers and city folk hanging out and drinking beer together blended into the sunset as the weekend drew to a close. The band rocked, the location rocked, even the Pac-Man game rocked.

But the drive back to the City required a pit stop in Hercules. As for Mazatlan, obviously I should have ordered something different because my order was bland and lifeless. A little love and attention to detail and Hercules could have a pretty decent taqueria. But not until they either try, or take the useless items off the menu. Mazatlan needs to kick down more than the fresh tomato salsa and hyper tomato flavor for the residents of Hercules. Maybe their Shrimp Super Burrito is delicious. However, I’ll never know, because chances are I won’t be going back.

According to Mikel, his veggie burrito was neither good nor bad, and Cory wasn’t impressed with his order. Of course, Forest (pictured) thought it was pretty good. Spicy, even.
